"Basic Science" was the second phase of early science operations, following Short Science. The results of the Basic Science proposal call were announced in November, 2010, following an independent peer review of the proposals submitted. Basic Science flights began in June, 2011 and were completed in September, 2011.
Basic Science Call for Proposal Results
We received 59 valid proposals for Basic Science observations. These were reviewed for technical feasibility, and then by an independent peer review panel for scientific merit. The Principal Investigators on the proposals were drawn from 26 US institutions from 12 states, and 5 international institutions from 4 countries. The amount of time available was over-subscribed by a factor of 3.4, which is comparable with the over-subscription rates obtained for other NASA missions early in their deployment.
The results of the selection process have been announced, and the list of proposals accepted for Basic Science may be found here .
Basic Science observations will be carried out in early 2011.
