October 29, 2014: Cycle 3 Results announced.
The SOFIA Cycle 3 Call for Proposals , released on May 23, 2014, solicited observing proposals using SOFIA from the US and International astronomical communities for "approximately 450 hours of observing time, conditional on the outcome of the US federal FY2015/2016 budgets and NASA allocations" (CfP section 1.1). It was issued on behalf of NASA by the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). Approximately 45 hours of science observing were offered via the German SOFIA Cycle 3 proposal call The deadline for Phase I proposal submission for both calls was July 18, 2014.
A total of 152 proposals were received, 121 from 14 countries through the USRA-led NASA call and 31 from German institutions through the DSI-led call. The proposals underwent technical and feasibility analysis at the SOFIA Science Center in support of the independent peer reviews, which took place at the end of August 2014 for the US queue and in mid-September 2014 for the German queue. The recommendations of the US and German peer review panels were then merged and approved by the SOFIA Science Mission Operations Director and Deputy Director. The results were announced on October 29, 2014.
