SOFIA Splinter Session at the Anchorage AAS, June 12, 2012 Date and Time: Tuesday June 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Location: Ballroom C of the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center We will hold a splinter session, "SOFIA Science Highlights and Cycle 1 Observing" during the AAS meeting in Anchorage. We will give a mission status update, inform the community about 1st-generation instruments to be commissioned in the coming year, describe the results of the call for 2nd-generation instruments, and present recent science highlights. The session presentations will also include information about FORCAST data processing, status of the near-IR camera FLITECAM, science operations, user support and the Airborne Astronomy Ambassador E/PO program. More information can be found at the AAS website and: http://www.sofia.usra.edu/ 2. SOFIA Science Special Issue of ApJ and A&A SOFIA science highlights based on observations made with the FORCAST mid-infrared camera (PI Terry Herter, Cornell University) have been published in the special issue of the Astrophysical Journal Letters, Volume 749, Number 2, 2012, April 20. Electronic versions of these papers are available at the ApJ site: http://iopscience.iop.org/2041-8205/749/2 . Science results from the GREAT far-IR spectrometer (P.I. Rolf Guesten, Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy) will be published in 22 papers as a special issue of Astronomy & Astrophysics in May. Please note that many of the GREAT A&A papers are available on astro-ph and can be found with a search key word "SOFIA" in abstract.
